York was the temporary home of the original Continental Congress in the late 1700â€™s during the Revolutionary War, and most notably, the city where the Articles of Confederation were first drafted and adopted. In its later years, York developed into an industrial hotspot, with the steam engine and railroad manufacturing industries taking a strong hold in the area. The New York Wire Company building originated in 1888 as the York Wire Cloth Company, and was initially used as a space to produce wire cloth for insect screening. Most recently, the building housed the New York Wire Company, where it used its high speed wire weaving looms to produce aluminum mesh for industrial use. Some of these original looms and spools of wire are still in the in the building, even now! Currently, this expansive property is now called New York Wire Works, and we are so excited to use it as a space to continue our mission of innovation, revitalization, and community.
